Victoria Edgar

We are pleased to have the fantastic Victoria Edgar on board for the first Piccadilly Market.

“Award winning Australian artist Victoria Edgar has been the designer and maker of superbly crafted silver and gold jewellery for over 28 years

Fully trained at R.M.I.T. ( gold and silversmithing) her stunning jewellery is now sought after by private collectors around Australia and overseas. Victoria works from her idyllic 165 year old farm based studio in the Barraboll Hills near Geelong and continually changes her ranges so that she is always engaging in the creative process of designing and making original work”

I am sure you will agree that Victoria's work is beautiful and unique.

Loving Kelly Rae

I love Kelly Rae Roberts, I discovered her a few years ago and have been following her blog ever since. Today she shared the closing of an old keynote and her words really resonated with me.

"we are much more than just artist and crafters. we are people who have a unique and much needed gift of expressing ourselves and the beauty of the world around us. we tell our stories in painterly shades of blues, red, green. we tell it in pretty fonts and beautiful photos. we reach for our dreams through shared connections. we live our lives with a strong belief in a hopeful world that sees us for all that we are. i am so happy to be a part of this expressly unique community because the world needs our visions and it needs our hearts.

in closing, i’d like to read the last few lines of my book, taking flight:

whether you're just embarki ng on your creative journey, or have been on it for years, i wish for you this:that you embrace every ebb and flow. that you feel the full breath of inspiration and that it takes you places you won't ever want to leave. that you remember all that you've learned. to listen to the whispers that are calling you to take notice. to face the direction of your fears and act anyway. to embrace the funky and unique community that has been waiting for you. to honor all that you were and all that you're becoming. to reveal your truth along the way, even when it hurts. and lastly, that you embrace the journey, complete with all the uncertainties along the way. it will undoubtedly lead you back to the best parts of yourself.

your creativity is your soul rising, your spirit taking flight. go now. and don't look back"

Making a Living in Craft

One of my most favourite mixed media artists is Kelly Rae, take a minute and look at her fabulous blog and her amazing work. I have her book and each time I look at it I feel inspired to dig deeper into my creative soul.

She has a link to this great New York Times Article about making a living from your craft. Happy Reading!!!

I must tend to a sick littl girl and get last minute Chrissy things organised.

Important Changes

Hello Everyone

I hope everyone is ready for Christmas and enjoying the lead up to the Big Day.

After receiving feedback from a few different people I have decided to reduce the cost of a stall at the first Piccadilly Market to be held on March 28th 2010 at Deakin Waterfront. I am reducing the participation price from $330 to $260 which is a significant saving, and one which I hope will attract even more traders.

I am so passionate about bringing this market to Geelong and will do whatever I can to get it off the ground. I am committed to making this an amazing up market event that has not been seen in Geelong before. One that is successful for all of us on the day and in the future. I believe this start off participation price will entice even more of the high calibre traders that we are targeting and will ensure success for the future of Piccadilly Market.

My team and I have some amazing marketing ideas that will get everyone wanting to see what it’s all about. If you have seen today’s Geelong News you will notice the first in a series of stories on the market and its place on the Geelong Event Calendar for 2010.

To all the amazing designers and traders I have received applications from already, think of the reduction in cost as an early Christmas present. To everyone else I urge you to get your applications in and not miss a chance to be a part of this unique opportunity. The interest is high and securing your spot at this premier event is paramount. Due to this change and that someone seems to have magically taken a few weeks out of my diary I am extending the application date to Friday 8th January 2010.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions.

Media Release

Media Release December 9, 2009

Exceptional showcase for region’s finest

Calls are out to attract the region’s top craftspeople to showcase their products at an exciting new art and craft market to be established in Geelong.

Piccadilly Market – to be launched in Geelong in March - will be unlike any market Geelong has seen before. Piccadilly brings together the highest of quality, stylish and contemporary home wares, clothing, jewellery, art works and food, from some of the State’s most talented designers and producers of fine handcrafts.

Piccadilly Market is the brain-child of Geelong’s innovative market manager Janina Lear – the face behind the highly successful Geelong Children’s and Baby Market..

“Geelong has never seen anything like Piccadilly Market before, but there are similar concepts in most of Australia’s capital cities and they’ve been very successful” Janina said. “I wanted to create something unique and exceptional like the fantastic markets they have in London like Portobello Market”.

Piccadilly Market will take place at the spectacular Deakin University Waterfront café overlooking the bay. It is currently scheduled to operate three times a year but there is opportunity for more dates to be added to this pending demand.

There has already been a huge amount of interest from craftspeople in the Geelong region wanting to be a part of the Market, and applications will stay open for the next two weeks to attract some of the State’s top craft talent. Applications will then be assessed on their ‘fit’ for the market and quality of their products.

“I am committed to ensuring this is not your average, run of the mill merchants selling their old stuff that they don’t want anymore,” Janina said. “We are looking for people with a true talent for creating beautiful, unique objects that someone will buy and really appreciate”.

“I would encourage anyone who has a unique product or craft to apply to be a part of Piccadilly Market. It may be for jewellery making, painting or sculpting furniture, it doesn’t matter. I want this to be a diverse, high quality market so I hope a wide range of craftspeople apply”.

Applications for Piccadilly Market close Friday 18 December – with the first market to take place at Deakin Waterfront Campus on Sunday 28 March. For more information or to obtain an application to be a vendor please contact Janina Lear on 0411 131 064 or email janinastoolbox@gmail.com.
